Welcome to Rugby Lake Lodge

Walleye We are a small family-owned fishing, hunting and outdoor vacation resort located in the wilderness of Northwest Ontario, northwest of Dryden, Ontario and Northeast of Vermilion Bay, Ontario. Our four-season resort is situated on the southern end of picturesque Rugby Lake. Only a short hike from camp, water flows from Rugby Lake through a scenic waterfall into the Pelican Creek.

Ontario Sports Fishing:

We have great fishing for Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Perch and Crappie, as well as ice fishing in the winter for Walleye. Our claim-to-fame is the fantastic Walleye fishing.

Our guests enjoy catching 30 to 60 Walleye per day with 30-inch trophies exceeding 10 pounds being available. When targeting Northern Pike guests can expect to catch 10 to 40 fish with 10 pounders being common but guests do catch them in the 15 to 20 pound range. On a good day of bass fishing you can catch 30 Smallmouth Bass in the 1 to 3 pound range per day with the odd 4 or 5 pounder. Hitting the weedy areas with small baits will enable you to fill up a bucket with good size Perch and Crappie. Rugby Lake is a shallow, sheltered lake and very easy to fish and great fun for all age groups. Great fishing only a short boat ride from camp, making it easy to return to camp and relax for a couple hours, or head into Dryden for shopping, site seeing or a round of golf. We also have boat caches on remote lakes in the area and one has Lake Trout.

ATVing & Snowmobiling:

There are hundreds of miles of groomed trails in the Dryden area all managed by volunteers from the Dryden Power Toboggan Club. About 10 miles north of the lodge is the main cross country trail L301, which comes from Sioux Lookout. Snowmobilers & ATVers also have hundreds of miles of unmarked trails and old logging roads to explore.

Guided Big Game Hunting:

We offer hunting packages for Whitetail Deer, Moose and Black Bear. Dryden is legendary for its giant bucks; "big bodied deer", with high scoring, heavy antlers. Eton/Rugby as the gateway to the Mafeking Loop boasts some of the best trophy Whitetail hunting in Ontario. Our lodge is located in the middle of our Black Bear Management Area (BMA) so hunters have only a short drive to the baited stands.

Smallmouth Bass Black Bear populations are high with the average Black Bear weighing 250 pounds but bears up to 450 pounds have been harvested. Each year 1 rifle Bull Moose tag or 2 archery Bull Moose tags are issued to our camp in WMU 8. Our camp is about 45min on logging roads to the southern boundary of WMU 5. Bull Moose in our area are common in the 1000 to 1200 pound range. All our hunting guests enjoy a high success rate with any of the three guided hunts.

Accommodations:

Our guests are accommodated in our "Lakeview Cottage Units", which are clean, comfortable, winterized and fully equipped for housekeeping. We include everything you need in each cottage unit to relax and enjoy your stay. Larger groups can book adjacent units allowing both privacy and easy access for socializing with family and friends, sit around a campfire, play games, or gather for a barbeque on the covered deck.

Activities:

ATV Trails and Snowmobile Trails are not the only activities outside of fishing and hunting. There are lots of things to do around camp for the whole family such as swimming, canoeing, paddle boating, hiking, nature photography, bird watching or just exploring the shore and finding a cool shaded place to read a book. Drive-to attractions in the local towns include museums, parks, shopping, varied culinary restaurant choices, golf courses, or float plane sightseeing flights are available.
